SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE

William Shakespeare is considered the greatest dramatist of all time. He was baptized on April 26, 1564, in England. He grew up in Henley Street, near London. William married Anne Hathaway.

In 1593 he published "Venus and Adonis", one of his first large poems. Over the years he became more famous in the London theatre world. Shakespeare died on April 23, 1616.

"Shakespeare in love" (1998) directed by John Madden, is an American film starred in by Gwyneth Paltrow and Joseph Fiennes. The film tells the story of the love adventure between Viola de Lesseps and William Shakespeare, during the time when the playwright was writing Romeo and Juliet.

We have recently watched the film in class, and it has been worth seeing it. We found it very interesting and full of love; we considered it a great film. If you like love and drama films you will definitely enjoy it! However, we didn't like the end... just watch it and let us know your opinion in the comments!!

"BOCATA SOLIDARIO"

This week (April 18- April 22) our school are selling "Bocata Solidario" during the playground in the canteen. The aim of this activity is to collect money in order to give it to Haití with a specific project: scholarships. The families' resources are very limited and many of them can't offer their children an appropriate education. We intend to cover the daily maintenance, the uniform's costs and books for all the school year.

The students from Primary, Eso and Bachillerato have to bring the foodstuff with which the "bocatas" are filled: chorizo, ham, salchichón, sponge cakes and Spanish omelet. But that's not all; badges with different drawings done by some teachers are also for sale..

The foundation that helps us in this project is called "Juntos Mejor". This foundation has been more than 150 years helping the most needy and deprived countries. It works for all the children who suffer an outcast childhood and the women who are being ill-treated all around the world. At the moment, projects are being developed in lots of countries, such as Nigueria, México, Cuba, Argentina, Perú, Haití, India, Pakistan, Siria etc. The aim is to improve the educative and social development in all the areas.

WORLD BOOK DAY

World Book Day is celebrated every year on April 23. The aim of it is to inculcate reading habits among people, specially on young  people.

The first World Book Day was celebrated April 23, in 1995. The date was chosen because it was the death of the famous authors William Shakespeare and Miguel de Cervantes. The idea of the day was taken from a Spanish tradition;  The Rose Day.

There are traditions on the day which are specific to some countries: in Spain, people exchange books and organise a reading marathon during two days; at the end, Miguel de Cervantes' price is given by the king. In Sweden, writing competitions are organised across schools and colleges.

In UK and Ireland, the day is celebrated on the first Thursday of March instead of April 23, as St George's Day is celebrated on this day.

To mark this important anniversary, a company in Australia has built a full-scale temporary working replica of the second globe theatre, which was built in 1599.
Shakespeare's works performed in this theatre made the Globe one of the most important theatres in history.


Thanks to researches from Sydney university, Pop-Up-Globe will replicate the exact dimensions  of the second Globe theatre. Eight works from William will be performed. The last one will be on April 16. All the people will share the same space and experience.



 

M A S K S

We've made a short film in honor to Claudina, which reminds what she taught us. It is also related with Carnival.

Claudina Théhevet (30th March, 1774) was born in Lyon, France, in a family of sill merchants. Her relatives called her "Glady". She died on February 3, in 1837.

Her life was marked by French Revolution. At the age of 19, 5th february 1794, she witnessed the shooting of two of her siblings. Despite her deep pain, she forgave them.

Father Coindre proposed Claudina to take in two orphaned girls, and so she did. With time more and more girls were taken in until Congregation of the Religious of Jesus and Mery wa formed. Her last words before dying were: "How good is God".

Claudina is our school's symbol; her ability to forgive, her power, her love and dedication towards orphaned girls and God... She inspires us and cheers us to follow her steps.

PEACE DAY

                                                       Peace Day in our school 3 years ago

Since 1964, Peace Day (30th January) is celebrated all around the world to commemorate Gandhi's death. This year as 30th is on Saturday, our school will celebrate it on Friday. The whole school will gather in the sport room in order to celebrate an assembly, where we will remember Gandhi and talk about the main topic, peace. Each course from ESO and BACHILLERATO has prepared some activities.

Gandhi  was born on October 2, in 1869 (Porbandar, India) He studied law and became the leader of India´s independence movement. In January 30 (1948), the 78-year-old Gandhi was killed in Ner Delhi´s Birla House. Nathuram Godse, an hindu extremist, was his murderer. He took the life of a pacifist human who spent his life preaching non-violence. This is the reason why the Peace Day is celebrated every January 30th all around the world.

The activity which 3rd and 4th of secondary are preparing consists of a Museum of Gernika's painting (Picasso). 3º of ESO will take care of making a big mural depicting the painting of Picasso. On the other hand, 4º of ESO, will seek for information about the painter, the work, its symbols... Once they have all the needed information, they will record their voices reading it.

When all that work is done, with the help of technology using the QR code, if you point at the drawing with the mobile phone, the recorded information will be reproduced.

Then, as we have said before, the whole school will go to the sports room, where we will celebrate an assembly. Students from BACHILLERATO will read some texts.

LEXIT

Lexit is a literal resource to encourage reading. It is an online reading platform where teachers have a personal space to share with students; each student must read a book and answer chapter to chapter to a time-controlled questionnaire.

The platform makes a scoring system which encourages students to read books. The more they read and make questionnaires correctly, the more points and options for prices they will have.

We've been using this space for 4 years from now. 19 students from 1ºESO to 4º ESO have won a price for reading. The prices this year have been:
-2 e-readers
-4 headphones sets
-13 USB-bracelets

THEATRE COMES TO OUR SCHOOL!

As every year, the 'Moving On' English theatre company, came last Friday to our centre. The show was given to students from 1st and 2nd of ESO and another one for 6th grade. We had the privilege to watch the play too, and we could see how students sang and got involved in the play, while they were learning English.

 'Moving on' company offered us a comedy and a musical show, interpreted in English by experienced British performers. This time, they performed a show called "One way ticket"; this play took us on an amazing journey in London underground, where the protagonists, Bob and Harry, try to preserve the underground station.

This company also did another theatre for primary school students . The story was about a dreamer, called Harry, who wanted to become a famous actor. The show gives the students the chance to involve in the world of television.
